Ulu Temburong National Park is unique national park and the first of its kind in Brunei. Visiting this area will give one a range of experiences from wobbling over suspension bridges and astounding views from above the trees on a canopy skywalk. The river that runs through the national park is used by visitors and locals alike to get into the park.

Brunei is mainly known for its immense wealth gained through the oil and gas industry. Visiting the city centre submerges one in views of golden domes, majestic mosques and grand palaces. A quick boat ride on a local water taxi brings one to Kampung Ayer, a large village on stilts built in the river that runs through the city. The contrast between golden palaces and wooden houses on stilts in a river is unique and abstract.

Ulu Temburong National Park occupies approximately 50,000ha of the Batu Apoi Forest Reserve which is located in the Temburong district. The park’s locality and steep, swampy terrain have limited human impact on the area and helped preserve its rich biodiversity. Established forest trails through the park 7 KM of wooden walkways which protect the ground vegetation and help prevent erosion. A canopy walkway affords visitors an opportunity to observe the rain forest’s diverse treetop ecosystem. Your day nature escapade starts with pick up from your hotel in Brunei at 6.30am and transfer to the jetty in the capital city where you will proceed with your journey in a local water taxi to Bangar town which will take around 45 minutes. Upon arrival at Bangar town jetty, transfer to Batang Duri where you will be given a briefing on your trip and also on the safety measures to be taken during your nature escapade.


Then continue your journey to Belalong Wilderness National Park by long boat which will take around one hour of scenic river cruise depending on the water level. During low water level season, you will have the privilege of getting wet and help to push the long boat upstream against the water currents. Upon arrival at the park centre, register and get your park entry pass before proceeding on your nature trek and canopy walk adventure. After picnic lunch by the river bank, depart back to Batang Duri and proceed to Bangar Town. Continue to Bandar Seri Begawan in a water taxi. Your tour ends with transfer back to your hotel in Bandar Sero Begawan.

Pick up from Miri hotel for transfer to nearby Brunei. Visit Seria, the oil town of Brunei where one can still see the “nodding donkeys” hard at work pumping crude oil for the country and the Billionth Barrel Monument.

In the capital, highlights include:

  • National Museum of Brunei to discover Brunei’s glorious past
  • Royal Regalia Museum which displays the royal memorabilia of the sultan
  • Sultan’s Palace, Istana Nurul Iman, on the hilltop -open to the public briefly after Ramadan, its golden domes and sweeping rooflines is a popular photo stop
  • Sultan Omar Mosque and a replica of a 16th-century royal barge moored in an adjoining lagoon
  • Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque with 20 golden domes and 29 marble steps symbolizing His Majesty, the 29th Sultan of the 600 year old Bolkiah Dynasty, one of the world longest ruling monarchies. (check closed days)
  • Kampong Ayer, one of world’s largest, centuries-old water village sometimes described as the Venice of the East.

Return to Miri in the late afternoon.


  • Please remember to bring along your passport as you are crossing international borders for this trip.
  • The Mosques are closed for non-Muslim visits on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • You will be visiting places of worship. During your visits to mosques, you will need to remove your shoes in order to step inside and be respectful of those in prayer.
  • On Friday everything will be shut down from 1200-1400 hrs
