Mahakam river, Kalimantan, Indonesia
The third largest island in the world is shared by Malaysian Borneo, Brunei Darussalam and Indonesian Kalimantan. The name ‘Kalimantan’ is ‘Kalamanthana’ in Sanskrit meaning ‘burning weather island’ referring to the often humid condtion of the island due to the streched tropical rainforests that contains a large portion of Indonesian Kalimantan.
Kalimantan known for its rural jungle where you can have great jungle trekking’s and be active by wild water rafting, is famous for the orang utang rehabilitation center in Tandjung Putih. Some area’s of the island are so rural it makes the island into one of the most bio-diversely populated, not only giving nature and trekking lovers some challenging and adventurous holidays, also culture seekers and divers find this island one of the best to travel to in the Indonesian Archipelago.
Because its proximity to the equator, seasonal weather variation in Indonesia is limited. Roughly speaking, there are two mild seasons: wet season, which runs October through April, and dry season, which runs May through September.
April to October, Less rain with cool breezes
November to March, Rainy & generally hotter
