In the middle of the dark jungle, you will find our simple but charming accommodation. 8 cottages situated in a rarely visited part of the Gunung Leuser National Park. Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrival Medan – Medan

Upon Arrival Kualanamu Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Medan. Medan is a busy trading city around the island as located near the strait which is one of the most important shipping lanes in the world. It is the gateway to the western part of Indonesia.

Day 02 : Medan – Tangkahan

At appropriate time depart from your hotel in Medan to Tangkahan. Tangkahan is a small village on the border of Gunung Leuser National Park located in North Sumatra. It is situated at the junction of 2 rivers, the Buluh River and the Batang River. Tangkahan specialises in eco-tourism activities like jungle trekking and Elephant trekking.

Day 03 : Tangkahan - Washing Elephants - Bukit Lawang by Jeep

After breakfast, join and help mahouts bathe the elephants in the river (around 08. 00 AM). You are allowed to wash and scrub the elephants. Once they are finished, then your turn. The elephants will spray you water. Nice shower!
Continue depart to Bukit Lawang by Jeep. This small village around 90km north west of Medan is situated along the Bohorok River and is the gateway to the Gunung Leuser National Park.

Note: Elephant riding & bathing is closed for public on Friday. Also closed on 17 August and first day of Idul Fitri

Day 04 : Bukit Lawang – 3 hours guided trekking

Pick up from your hotel and you will walk along the river side till the crossing point where canoe waits and takes you to the other side of the river. Followed by a short hike up to visit the central viewing area, where you have a chance to see the Orangutan swinging freely through the tropical rainforest, however as with any wildlife, no guarantees can be made that they are around this area. After the visit, across back the river and walk about half an hour before you enter the other side of the park to start jungle trek to come more up close with nature. Enjoy the sights, smell and sounds of rainforest. From the center view point, we bring you deeper into Gunung Leuser National Park to experience the rainforest, of course you will hike up and down the hills while constantly searching for wild animals in their natural habitat. You have a big chance to see the wildlife; gibbons, thomas leaf monkeys, longtail and pigtail macaques, flying squirrels, Sumatra peacocks and hornbills. A wild orang utans might cross your way.

Day 05 : Bukit Lawang – Berastagi

Morning depart (Around 08.00 AM) from Bukit Lawang to Berastagi. The town of Berastagi offers a refreshing break because of its cool alpine climate. The surrounding fields produce a variety of flowers, fruit and vegetables. The landscape is dominated by two active volcanoes; Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung. You can visit local fruit market enroute.

Day 06 : Berastagi – Climb Sibayak – Samosir Island

This 2172 meter tall volcano is close to the hill town Berastagi. It is one of easily accessible top volcanoes in Indonesia, can be explored by anyone in reasonably good shape. Morning pick up from hotel by car and transfer just half an hour to the beginning of the climb, then an hour walk to the top. The first part of the walk is over a broad and road surrounded by green forest.
You sometimes hear the calling of the black Siamang & gibbon. After short while, walk through a narrow path surrounded by mountain vegetation. The last path, you walk between rocks. Then you arrive at the crater where you can see sulfur puffing from vents. Through Raja Berneh where you can soak your sore muscles in the hot springs. Continue transfer to Samosir Island for your next hotel.

Day 07 : Samosir Island – Cycling Tour

Cycling as far as you can on Samosir through the typical Batak road style. Villages with traditional houses, people at work on rice fields, children learning in school and other daily activity of villagers will be the attractions along the road.

Day 08 : Samosir Island – Free Program

Day 09 : Samosir Island – Sipirok

Morning depart from your hotel in Samosir to go to Sipirok. Cross the lake to Parapat, along the southern shores of Lake Toba with its lovely rice fields and huge Batak kings' graves. We will make several stops to break up the journey. It is interesting to see the pineapple, coffee, cacao and clove plantations and stop at the hot Sulphur springs at Sipoholon and a traditional village where you can see how Ulos textiles are made by hand weaving. You will stay the night in Sipirok.

Day 10 : Sipirok – Bukittinggi

Depart from Sipirok to Bukittingi, located 930 meter above sea level, through the Minangkabau highlands. It is an impressive tour; you will pass waterfalls, lakes and tropical rain forest. En route you pass the equator in Bonjol. In the afternoon, you will arrive in the cool and pleasant town of Bukittingi.

Day 11 : Bukittinggi, Ngarai Sianok Walk (2 hours)

Pick up from hotel and transfer to the starting point of the walk. Then, walk down to Sianok, a 150-meter deep canyon which lies in the outskirts of Bukittinggi. It is an incredibly picturesque area and lush green with river winding through the bottom of steep-walled canyon. It is a nice walk which takes ± 2 hours through small jungles, bushes and river. The walk ends in Koto Gadang, a silver village. Here the guests can see how the people work on hand-made silver. From here we take you back to Bukittinggi by car.
