The compound is surrounded by a wall. Different buildings within the compound are laid out according to Balinese architecture where directions are defined by the location of the Gunung Agung, Holy Mountain. The family shrine is the most sacred area of the compound, and the host will explain what kind of offerings are placed at which shrine. You will be served dinner while sitting on the floor, and you can choose to eat with your hands just like the Balinese. Family members drop in to enjoy the food but will find their place to eat anywhere in the compound. So do not expect to be seated on a table with the family around, as this is not the Balinese style.
