Get ready for an action-packed day as we take you on a full-day city tour that unveils the rich heritage and historical wonders of Brunei.
Starting at 9:00 AM, we’ll visit the Lapau, a royal ceremonial hall where the Sultan of Brunei was crowned in 1968. Next to it stands the Dewan Majlis, the old parliament house, both adorned with captivating traditional Brunei woven motives.
Prepare to be enchanted as we make a brief stop at the Tamu Kianggeh, a traditional market on the banks of the Kianggeh River, visited even by HM Queen Elizabeth II herself during her state visit in 1998. Our journey continues to The Malay Technology Museum, which traces ancient boatmaking, metalworking, and goldsmithing techniques.
Next, we’ll explore the Tomb of Sultan Bolkiah, the 5th Sultan of Brunei, during whose reign the Golden Age of Brunei flourished. Then, we’ll enter the Royal Regalia Museum, which houses the exquisite regalia of the Sultan and the royalty, including fascinating exhibits from the Silver and Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s rule.
After a delightful local lunch, we’ll set off to the Kampong Ayer, often referred to as the “Venice of the East.” Cruise along the Brunei River on a picturesque “water taxi” and walk along wooden paths, discovering the culture and history of this unique water village. You’ll even get the chance to visit a local house, where traditional cakes and tea will be served, adding to your immersive experience.
The tour’s highlight awaits at the Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture with awe-inspiring middle eastern and local influences. Conclude the day with a visit to the majestic Nurul Iman Palace, the official residence of The Sultan and the world’s largest living residence of a head of state.
Please note that non-Muslims may not enter the mosques on Thursdays, Fridays, and religious festivals, but you’ll still be able to admire the stunning gardens and compounds on these days.
